You give them the internet, they give you this.

"Planet Mars will be brightest in the night sky starting August. It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will culminate on August 27 when Mars comes to within 35 million miles of earth. Be sure to watch the sky on August 27 12:30am. It will look like the Earth has two moons. The next time Mars will be this close is in 2287. Share this with your loved ones and friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again."

Let us, people, have a look at the inherent flaws in this message:

> Mars will NOT look as large as the full moon. It will appear, in fact, only as a bright star.

> It will not look like as if Earth has two moons. (If this statement shocks you, you deserve death. Honestly. At least a vasectomy.)

> Mars will not come within 35 million miles of Earth this year. The closest it'll get will be on October 30th, 2005, when it will be about 42 million miles(69 million Kms) from the earth.

> This is NOT such a big event. Two years ago, in 2003, Mars was closer and brighter.

> This is actually a recycled message from 2003 (when it was just half a hoax) which has caught on this time around with some genius help.

> If Mars does EVER happen to look as big as the Moon in the sky, the tides it causes will create enough tension to ruin those moments with your "loved ones and friends".

Modifying the above message to compensate for these we are left with the following:

"Planet Mars."

Now fools, now, forward it all you want.

PS. If you forwarded this message to anyone through any medium whatsoever, damn you.

Ran across your blog and must say that I really appreciated your clarification of those STUPID forwards people pass along. Could you tell people holding Alt-8 is never going to do anything, no matter how many people you forward an email to in your next post???
